Here's Marcelle Pick's list of the most important points to keep in mindguidelines for the key elements of the Core Balance program and
support for the efforts you'll be making.
- Consult with your health-care practitioner before beginning the program.
- Read the labels on food products and don't buy what you can't pronounce (you'll find more details on savvy label-reading in the Appendices of
The Core Balance Diet book).
- Try to eat foods that look like what they are (fish, not fish sticks; potatoes, not potato chips).
- Practice the rot rule: if it wouldn't perish on the shelf in three days, don't buy it.
- Avoid damaged fats, including trans fats.
- Avoid processed and packaged foods.
- Disconnect from TV, the computer, phones, telephone, radio, and portable music playersparticularly before bedtime.
- Watch out for artificial preservatives, coloring, pesticides, and other artificial chemicals.
- Eat slowly, savoring each bite.
- Avoid artificial sweeteners as much as you can; try a natural alternative like stevia or agave nectar.
- Don't quit any prescription drug cold turkey (or without discussing it with your health-care practitioner).
- Remember that baby steps will take you far if you keep taking them.
